Activities to do with a Little

      The following is a list of ideas that have minimal expense. These are simply suggestions, so use your imagination and creativity to think of some fun activities to do with your little. We welcome any new ideas to add to our list. Most importantly remember to focus on FUN and FRIENDSHIP because it is the most important aspect of a Big/Little relationship

  • Try a YOGA class by contacting Al who is one of our Big Brothers at vianet.ca
  • Free tours of the Sudbury Police Museum
  • Fishing ; Tackle Share Program will provide you with rods and tackle
  • Biking
  • Canoeing ; Canoe Club has a resonably priced membership
  • Explore a local park or mountain
  • Try out a new sport together
  • Think, "earth day" ; community clean-up
  • Fly a kite , make the kite
  • Local sports games
  • Make a snowman ; don't forget the carrot nose
  • Ice-skating; ask us if we have spare skates
  • Sledding or tubing followed by a hot chocolate
  • Take a local hayride
  • Enjoy fall foliage
  • Go apple picking, pumpkin picking…etc
  • Collect and rake leaves-make pressed leave collages with the leaves
  • Mini Golf
  • Rollerblading
  • Go on a camera scavenger hunt
  • Collect rocks, then wash them and paint on them with acrylic paint
  • Take a walk with a momento bag & collect interesting leaves, rocks etc
  • Make a bird feeder and hang it outside somewhere (paint your names on it)
  • Have a picnic ; ask your little to make a special snack for the picnic
  • Plant a garden ; children enjoy helping you around the home

Around Towns

  • Go window shopping
  • Visit local colleges or University
  • Check out Science North, Dynamic Earth
  • Visit local pet shelters
  • Attend a Sudbury Wolves Game * ask agency for tickets*
  • Visit local parks, take a walk on the board walk

Getting to know Each Other

Share pictures, stories, and fun memories with your Little Make all about Me posters together -using magazine clippings, makers, paint etc Teach your Little a sport or hobby that you enjoy then ask them to teach you something Start a scrapbook of things you've done together

Rainy Days or Brainy Days

  • Check out a museum or library
  • visit the Sudbury Region Police Museum (free admission)
  • go to the Sudbury Airport - watch the planes take-off & land (summer is busiest with water bombers), get a tour of the Air Ambulance
  • Instead of ordering a pizza, MAKE YOUR OWN!
  • Decorate Easter Eggs
  • Bake a pie * the staff loves baked goodies (smile)
  • Create your own valentines
  • Make a collage with pictures from old magazines and newspapers
  • Make holiday cards and help your Little address and send them
  • Think of New Year's resolutions
  • Have a fun spa day….do finger and toe nails, facials, hair etc. (Ladies)

  • Roast pumpkin seeds
  • Make a jack o' lantern
  • Create and/or brainstorm Halloween costume ideas
  • Talk about upcoming elections and related topics, obviously appropriate ones,
  • with your Little regarding the voting process and things of interest to you

  • Go to the movies or rent a video
  • Paint an original T-shirt that both of you can wear
  • Go bowling
  • Write a letter to an author of a book your Little really likes
  • Learn to count or learn some phrases in a foreign language
  • Make some yummy cookies * yummy*
  • Roast marshmallows over a candle (Please be careful!)
  • Start a stamp collection
  • Finger-paint with chocolate, lemon or strawberry pudding
  • Meditate together
  • Take turns styling each other's hair
  • Listen to music and create your own song
  • Go bicycling, bowling, skating, mini-golfing, tobogganing
  • Play cards and board games – maybe create your own
  • Write a story or create a play
  • Be a scientist – study birds, butterflies, bugs
  • Help an elderly neighboor
